The Department notes that even within these categories, some cases may take longer due to complexity or missing documentation. The recent improvements, however, indicate that the bulk of applications are being processed significantly faster than in previous years.

Permanent Visa Programs

Permanent visa applications remain more time-consuming, reflecting both program complexity and the focus on clearing older backlogged cases.

• Skilled Permanent Visa: Median processing time 8 months. Processing times may vary from month to month as the Department finalises both new and longstanding applications.
